An endoscopic examination of the colon. A flexible tube with a light and camera is gently passed into the rectum and on to the cecum, which is the very beginning of the colon. The ileum, the last part of the small intestine, is also examined dependent on clinical presentation and technical feasibility. Your physician will be able to thoroughly inspect those areas, remove polyps and biopsy as appropriate.
An endoscopic examination of the lowest portions of the colon and the rectum.
If indicated in the treatment of hemorrhoids, a rubber band is placed around the base of the hemorrhoid inside the rectum. The band cuts off circulation, and the hemorrhoid withers away within a few days.
